This website is run by Studiosity. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website and the Studiosity services. For example, that means you should be able to:

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Some text and other elements across the site lack sufficient contrast with the background, so people with low vision may have trouble reading some text and recognizing some icons. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criteria 1.4.3 (contrast (minimum)) and 1.4.11 (non-text contrast). We continue to address this across the site and plan to increase the contrast of all elements to at least 4.5:1 during 2023.

Disproportionate burden

FAQ pages

There are components of the frequently asked questions pages at support.studiosity.com that are not compliant with the WCAG 2.1 standard:

  • Images in the FAQ section do not have a text alternative. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content)
  • The search box and some headings have a contrast ratio below 4.5:1 with the background. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.3 (contrast (minimum)).
  • Text cannot be resized independently of the page. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.4 (resize text).
  • Keyboard focus is not visible on search box and article headings. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.7 (focus visible).
  • Screen readers do not announce when search results have been updated. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 4.1.3 (status messages).

Our FAQ pages are built and hosted through a third party provider who currently do not allow sufficient customization to fix these issues.

We have assessed the cost of migrating the FAQ content to a different provider. We believe that doing so now would be a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations. We have requested that the provider fix the listed issues and will make another assessment in 2023.

Equation editor

Keyboard focus does not behave as expected and is not always visible in the equation editor. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criteria 2.1.1 (keyboard) and 2.4.7 (focus visible).

The equation editor in the classroom uses an external software library that does not allow overriding the keyboard focus behaviour or visibility.

We have assessed the cost of building a new equation editor within the online classroom or integrating a different software library. Doing so at this time would be a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations. We will make another assessment in 2023.

Audio descriptions on existing videos

There are several videos on the site that do not have audio descriptions. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.2.5 (audio description (prerecorded)).

These videos were produced with help from an external agency that did not provide an alternative audio track with audio descriptions.

We have assessed the cost of having audio descriptions recorded and edited into an alternative audio track for all the existing videos. Doing so at this time would be a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations. We will make another assessment in 2023.

Content that's not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

The whiteboard on the question create page and in the classroom can only be drawn on using a touch or pointer device.

Because the whiteboard is a path-based editor, the accessibility regulations do not require it to be operable with a keyboard or screen reader.

Students can use the question textbox, text chat and file upload as alternative means to communicate their questions to the specialist.

This statement was prepared on October 13th 2020. It was last reviewed on May 18th 2023.

This website was last tested over several weeks finishing on July 20th 2020. The testing was carried out by Studiosity staff.

We tested all pages in the core workflows for asking questions and having submissions reviewed, all pages linked from homepage footer, and a sampling of pages from the FAQ section: the first page in each section of support.studiosity.com.
